Teaching

Ruth is an experienced teacher of flute, piano, vocal studies and violin. She has been teaching part time alongside her performing career for over 35 years and specialises in intermediate and advanced tuition and adult returners. She also offers a short focused 10 week customized psychological intervention to reduce performance anxiety/stage fright. 

 

She works from several studios across the UK and runs workshops, concerts and masterclasses in the holidays when time allows. Many students aspire to become professional musicians. She has a 100% pass rate. Most students gain distinctions or high merits in examinations.

Ruth has been teaching worldwide online for 8 years and has students in the UK, Canada, Singapore, USA and France. She travels a lot so students are expected to learn via live online classes most or all of the time. Supplementary material is provided and also recorded lessons.​

 

 All students achieve high marks for their examinations and Ruth has a 100% pass rate.  In the past, Ruth has worked in some of the top UK public schools: Harrow, Hampton Court, Richmond Park, Sherborne School for Girls, the Harpur Schools in Bedford & Kent College of Music. She has also worked as an examiner for Trinity Guildhall, ABRSM; as an inspector and critical reader for OfSTED and at Great Ormond Street Hospital, UOL as a researcher and for Grampian NHS public health services in the field of psychology.

 

Current prices for online lessons from September 2022 are £20 for 30 mins up to grade 8 and £50 per hour for post grade 8 students. In person lessons are charged at a higher rate depending on location, room rental cost, travel fees etc.

 

Performance anxiety/stage fright coaching is offered as a stand alone psychological intervention course of ten weekly sessions. Please enquire for details of fees /availability etc.
